What Is Aluminium Anodizing And Its Benefits?

Aluminium Anodizing is the common material used in construction parts. Like doors, windows, bathroom accessories, roofs, interior & exterior finishes in buildings, it is easy to find.

Anodizing is an electrochemical process that turns the metal surface into a decorative, substantial, corrosion-resistant, anodic oxide finish. Anodizing is, therefore, a matter of highly supervised oxidation, the amplification of a naturally occurring phenomenon.

Anodizing is a method for manufacturing decorative and protective films on articles made of aluminium and its fusion. It is essentially a method where a thick film of aluminium oxide is assembled on the aluminium surface through the way of a direct current electrical accumulation.

Aluminium alloy is the relevant material for anodising. However, other metals such as titanium alloys and magnesium can be used to anodise.

But Why Is Anodising Important?

Anodizing works as sunscreen works for our face, and Scientifically it provides a layer of aluminium oxide to the object, which is resistant to rust. Also, it protects the surface from the possibility of peeling and flaking.

Let’s discuss some key plus points of Anodizing Aluminium :

  • Keep Corrosion resistance
  • Natural metallic anodised finish.
  • No risk of adhesion loss of the capacitor film.
  • No risk of surface finish fading.
  • No risk of a streak.
  • No risk of fibrous corrosion.
  • Conservation of the original surface finish texture and design.
  • Optimal surface coverage.
  • Anodic film is impenetrable.

Benefits Of Anodising Aluminium

  • Durability
Anodizing most products have extreme long durability and offer heavy cost saving through maintenance and supervising. Anodised aluminium makes a surface three times stronger than standard aluminium.
  • Colour Stability
Exterior oxidised coating provides excellent protection from ultraviolet rays and is easily repeatable from peeling off the surface.
  • Ease of Maintenance
Anodizing makes scars and wears from fabrication, handling, installation, frequent surface dirt cleaning, and usage are almost non-existent. Cleaning with a damp cloth or mild soap and water washing usually restore an anodised surface to its original appearance. Mild acid cleaners can be used for more difficult deposits.
  • Aesthetics
Anodizing gives many designs and lengthy colour charts and minimises or eliminates colour variations. Unlike other processes, anodising allows aluminium to maintain its natural metallic lustre.
  • Cost
As we know, aluminium is one of the cheapest materials, which makes the anodising process cost-effective.
  • Health and Safety
Anodizing is a safe process that is not damaging to human health. An anodised finish is chemically stable, will not decompose, is non-toxic, and has a very low melting point of aluminium, which offers easy decomposition. Also, While anodising aluminium, no harmful or hazardous chemicals are produced, making it an eco-friendly process.

What Makes Aluminium Anodising Beneficial Too!

  • Weight
Aluminium is a very light material compared to others like steel, iron, copper or zinc. Its density is about 1/3 of steel (2.7 g/cm3). This is why aluminium has gained a lot of popularity in modern industries. It is very easy to handle and very cheap to transport, and still, it has great stability. Also, lighter vehicles have better performance.
  • Conductivity
Due to its lightweight, aluminium has thermal conductivity, making it a great heat exchanger.
  • Processing
Almost all methods can be used with aluminium (machining, welding, forming, extruding) and most times; it is easier to process than other metals.
  • Impermeable
Firstly, impermeable means something that doesn’t allow water or any liquid to pass through it. Which takes aluminium anodising one step forward,
  • Non-magnetic
Aluminium is non-magnetic, making it useful for electrical shieldings as computer disks, dish antennas, busbars or magnet housings.
  • Sound and shock absorption
Aluminium is an excellent sound absorber. It is also used in auto bumpers due to its shock-absorbing properties.

Hope! You got the concept.
